Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Indoor Air Quality and Environmental Health
Job Description:
The UConn Health School of Medicine seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the air monitoring for the state-funded SAFE-CT program. This program will distribute grants-in-aid to K-12 public schools across Connecticut to construct and install do-it-yourself (DIY) air purifiers. The Postdoctoral Researcher will play a critical role in monitoring indoor air quality, evaluating program effectiveness, and researching to improve the program's impact. This post-doctoral fellow will work on research under the direction of Dr. Misti Levy Zamora, Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences, and the Department of Neurology in partnership with researchers in the UConn College of Engineering and Neag School of Education. Responsibilities: • Conduct indoor air quality monitoring for the SAFE-CT program, including measuring particulate matter, CO2 levels, and other relevant parameters. • Collect and analyze data related to the effectiveness of DIY air purifiers in reducing air pollutants and improving indoor air quality. • Analyze survey data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for program improvement. • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing monitoring and evaluation findings for stakeholders, including schools, policymakers, and the public. • Contribute to research publications and grant proposals. • Collaborate with the CLEAR Team, school personnel, and community partners. • Assist in the distribution and operation of equipment in schools around the state of Connecticut. Required Qualifications: • Ph.D. in Environmental Health, Environmental Engineering, Biostatistics, Atmospheric Sciences, Epidemiology, or a related field. • Experience with conducting air quality monitoring and assessment. • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, including experience with statistical analysis and data visualization. • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Matlab, R). • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. • Ability to drive around the state Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with community-based participatory research. • Familiarity with environmental health regulations and standards related to indoor air quality. • Experience working with K-12 schools or educational settings. • Knowledge of air filtration technologies and DIY air purifier construction. Appointment Details: The position will be located within the school's Department of Public Health Sciences in Farmington, CT. Department faculty maintain vibrant extramural research and service programs that reflect extensive associations with national, state, and regional health agencies (health.uconn.edu/public-health-sciences).
