Job Description:
The Colorado State University Center for Energy Development and Health is seeking a PhD research scientist (full-time with benefits) with expertise in air quality modeling, machine learning, and data fusion. Our team of engineers, atmospheric chemists, and statisticians is leading a multi-year project focusing on wildfire smoke forecasting. We are looking for a PhD-level individual to play a leadership role on a multidisciplinary team working on solving global engineering challenges at the forefront of air quality, climate, and public health. Preferred candidates will have interest/expertise in aerosol and/or weather modeling, machine learning and data fusion, and aerosol physics. The candidate will embed within a diverse and collegial environment of scientists spanning engineering, atmospheric and computer sciences, statistics, and public health. This position carries high potential for promotion and career advancement at CSU. The position is based out of the Powerhouse Energy Campus and carries strong career promotion potential with successful performance. The successful candidate will lead the development of machine learning (ML) models to forecast ground-level concentrations of wildfire smoke. This work will include integration of diverse data streams, including physics-based smoke forecasts, meteorological data, land use information, satellite retrievals, and ground-based air quality measurements, into the ML models.
