Job Title: NRC Postdoc Position

Job Description:

Application deadline: February 1st Evaluating Techniques for Remediation of Air and Surfaces Indoors from Wildland-Urban Interface Fire Smoke Contamination Fires occurring at the wildland-urban interface (WUI) can produce smoke from combustion of urban materials, like cars and structures, that can contaminate buildings. The contamination, resulting from deposition of smoke on surfaces, can affect indoor air quality long after fires have extinguished. Industry standards exist for cleaning contaminated homes, but little published data demonstrates efficacy of cleaning and contamination methods. This year the NIST manufactured test house will be contaminated with WUI fire smoke surrogate and the effectiveness of cleaning methods will be evaluated using a suite of instrumentation for the measurement of gaseous chemicals and particles. Complimentary measurements of emissions from materials can also be performed in an environmentally controlled chamber. Results of the studies will be used to support and develop guidance and standards for fire smoke remediation of indoor environments.
