Albuquerque International Airport

Albuquerque International Airport (ABQ), also known as the Sunport, is located just 4.5 miles from the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Taxicabs and Ride Sharing

The average taxi fare from the airport to downtown is approximately $15-$18 before gratuity, and is approximately 15 minutes one-way. Passengers can hail a taxi cab with the help of Ground Transportation employees, available outside of the baggage claim area.

In addition, visitors frequently use ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft to get to and from the airport and around the city.

All sessions for the 2021 Conference will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center. We have secured discounted hotel rooms at two nearby hotels. Rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis. We anticipate that the AAAR room block will sell out quickly; availability and rate cannot be guaranteed once the block is full.

The primary host hotel for the 2021 AAAR Conference is the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Albuquerque, which is connected to the Albuquerque Convention Center via underground concourse. The rate for king, queen or 2 double rooms at the Doubletree is $176, including complimentary wireless internet. The cut-off date is September 9, 2021. The AAAR Standard Block Code is AER.

Why Choose an Official AAAR Hotel?

All attendees and exhibitors are encouraged to make hotel reservations by utilizing the official AAAR hotels, the DoubletTee Hotel Albuquerque and the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque. The AAAR recognizes that attendees have many options with other area hotels and that you may be looking only at the per-night cost in making your decision. However, we encourage you to take a few minutes to understand the importance of selecting the official AAAR hotel and other factors which go far beyond the per-night rate.

AAAR has a long history of consistently fulfilling the minimum number of room nights to be sold according to the association’s contracts with hotels. However, with the current economic climate and competition from other properties, it gets more difficult each year to ensure that the number of guaranteed contracted sleeping rooms will be used by attendees and exhibitors.

What Does This Mean to You?

When AAAR is able to maintain a consistent history of hotel rooms sold, it helps the association negotiate the lowest hotel rates possible for future AAAR conferences.

AAAR earns credit for each room night utilized by an attendee or exhibitor when the reservation is at an official conference hotel. This credit helps to offset meeting room rental costs, therefore keeping conference fees low.

The AAAR hotel contract protects YOU. Booking within the AAAR hotel block gives AAAR the opportunity, if the need does arise, to assist you with potential hotel problems you may experience while at the conference. When you choose other hotels, AAAR staff has no contacts or leverage to help rectify a problem or inconvenience which you may have encountered.

COVID-19 Updates

The Albuquerque Convention Center and hotels are following stringent health and safety requirements following the guidelines of each hotel brand.

  1. Hyatt’s Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment policies can be found here.
  2. Hilton’s CleanStay program details can be found here.
  3. Both hotels and the Albuquerque Convention Center are certified NW Safe Certified, trained in COVID-safe practices.

As of July 1, 2021, the state of New Mexico has lifted all pandemic-related occupancy restrictions. Businesses may still adopt and require additional precautions at their discretion, and still recommend following CDC guidelines as appropriate for the activity and venue. The state will follow current CDC guidance with respect to face-coverings.

As the situation and response to COVID-19 evolves, there may be additional requirements implemented for the health and safety of all attendees. AAAR will monitor the situation and will adhere to the state, local, county and venue regulations as it pertains to COVID-19.

AAAR is likely to require the following to attend the conference: (a) proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR (b) a negative COVID-19 test taken prior to the conference. The logistics of uploading these documents will be sent to everyone registered closer to the meeting.
